During class on Monday, we began setting up our still lifes, giving emphasis to composition (especially overlap, rule of thirds, etc.), color, and lighting. Lighting seems as if it will be the biggest challenge of the process, especially considering the grey weather we've been having, but I think it will make for an interesting experience. It was also a challenge to set up the still life in such a way that would create an interesting composition for my two partners and I. However, as we began to sketch on our canvases, we could see that this will allow for a unique variety of perspectives and techniques that will be exciting to compare. I'm particularly excited to paint the different hues of contrasting reds and blues and play around with the reflections on the metallic candle holder. Overall, I think painting will be very refreshing after our sculpture unit and I'm looking forward to continuing the process.
