Final Project Progress Post

My last project was my most ambitious, and also my most rushed - not an optimal combination. I usually have to do some editing/photoshopping when creating a reference, but this project required splicing two not-quite-lined-up images together and imagining the rest as I worked. I think this is evident in the final piece, as there are some apparent proportion issues, but I was happy with the atmosphere and color of the work overall. As usual, I started with an underpainting, using subtraction to block out lighter portions of the image.

Next, I worked on the figures, often working upside down (especially for the facial features) to remove bias and view the features as unrecognizable shapes. This was more effective on the self-portrait portion—I always seem to have trouble getting my brother's face right.

Finally, I worked in the background, playing with the screen glow throughout the fabrics.
