Senior Show Reflection

This year's senior show was the first I have attended, and it was a great experience. Each and every person had a unique style and a strong personal voice shining through their work.
This piece (right), "Blinded," by Izzy List was one of my favorites. The use of light, perspective, and a dynamic composition, broken up with the contrast of the attached bird, make for a really interesting piece that immediately caught my eye.

Sydney Brewer's "Overgrown Android" was another stand-out piece for me. I remember entering the art room as she was working on it earlier in the year and being taken aback by its size. I talked to her about her process, and I found it interesting to learn about the smaller version she made before being told to make it much, much bigger—something she definitely succeeded in. The use of natural materials that contrast the metallic paint and other art supplies makes the piece feel deceptively lifelike. I think it could be very intriguing to see a photoshoot of the piece in the outdoors, coming out of the ground.
There were plenty of other pieces that were really amazing in this show, and I truly enjoyed seeing the works as well as putting faces behind them. I have had the pleasure of seeing Lucie Bouton's portfolio multiple times now because of the Scholastic show, and I'm definitely rooting for her to go further in the competition. I also have continually enjoyed seeing Rachel Dai's works in the halls this year. While I know very little about digital art, I have enjoyed playing with the Procreate app in the past and am inspired to try it again!
I'm looking forward to helping with the show as a junior next year and getting an installation of my own senior year!
