Below is my process with oil painting from the initial sketch, to grisaille underpainting, to the initial glaze and then final glaze/painting. I definitely lost some faith in the process during the first glaze, as the colors looked really muddled and (despite constant warning from Coach Hall) I hadn't made my underpainting light enough and therefore lost many of my highlights. However, with many more days of glazing as well as some direct painting (especially on the teapot with the purples and periwinkle on the lid), I was able to build up much richer colors and bolder highlights. There are a few proportion issues and areas I would fix in the background, but overall I was pretty proud of my first oil painting.
