Memory Sculpture- Progress

Currently, my sculpture project is just a bunch of small, random pieces. However, by next week, it will be transformed!
The concept for my project, surrounding the idea of memory loss and things being out of place, is to have a "stove" (something which always seems to get left on and forgotten) with a pot containing something that doesn't belong. All of these items will be stacked in a way that seems precarious, with the base (the dark piece of wood) having some shards coming out, acting as "flames."
I've worked this week to whittle handles for a pot, which has been much more time consuming than I anticipated. With these finished, I have also started carving the pot itself. Soon, I will be able to assemble everything. I have struggled with conceptualizing everything and have changed my design many times. One of the first challenges was my attempt to make a clay coil, which I would then cast and use as a burner. However, I have now had the idea to use a casting of my fingertips from our first casting class that will hold up the pot instead. I think this will add to the odd, out-of-place aspects of the piece, and it will allow me to incorporate something I think is really quite cool!
So far in this project, I've learned I'm not really one for sculpture. I am very partial to drawing and the occasional painting- things I can easily control. Between the three methods of sculpture we've learned so far, whittling has been the most controllable method, so I've naturally spent a lot of time doing it- though I do think I have a long way to go with my carving skills. Overall, though, I'm glad to have tried something new, and look forward to seeing my project some together.

I’m so excited to see this concept materialize! I love your work!!
