It was great to hear from graphic desginer and animator Dan Kanach today. It was inspiring to hear his story, going from teaching to coaching to his true passion for animation and design. It was also interesting that he focused on photography and literature in college but ended up working in animation. He was quite frank about the positives and negatives of implementing art into a career, but it was very helpful to see a very practical application of artistic skills. He drove home the point that doing business as an artist doesn't always require your very best- it only needs to satify the customer! I liked how he stressed the importance of placing proper value on your work, as I have certainly wondered in the past whether and how to sell my artwork. As for what he does, I was most interested by the motion capture software as well as his camera work. I have a strong interest in film, so being able to think about the amount of work that can go behind animation is always eye-opening. I think it would be fun to explore some of the different design and animation softwares and to find ways to incorporate my love for drawing with the digital art realm.
